In this series of posts, we’ll address the most common – and egregious – word usage blunders. You’ve probably seen them covered before, but it bears repeating. First up, farther vs. further.
Simply put, farther refers to physical distance: John walked farther down the street. Further refers to a figurative increase in time or amount (i.e., additionally or to a greater degree): John further explored the neighborhood.
